Rev. James Shiflett
Pasto

Pastor Jim has given his life to telling Bible stories, making known the living word and bringing people to grow spiritually and experience spiritual transformation. Pastor Jim, along with Paul Sills, established the Body Politic Theatre. It was from Paul that Pastor Jim learned the power of stories. In that context he learned the theater games of Viola Spolin, a way to teach theater through play. He developed the Dream Theater out of which came the Bible Story Theater. Using that rich experience he spent four years researching Bible Storytelling and congregational spiritual transformation. These four years have resulted in Pastor Jim receiving his Doctorate of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Ohio. Now he resides at the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Northlake, a bible Storytelling Congregation

A marvelousservice of dedication and commitment happened over fifty years ago. As part of the service of chartering, conducted by the Presbytery of Chicago, sixty people became members of the newly established congregation. Some of those persons are still involved in the life of the congregation. It all began when the Church Federation of Greater Chicago, reported that there was a need for a church in the Wolf Road, Grand Avenue area. The Presbytery of Chicago was asked to organize the church as a result.

This year we celebrate over fifty years of ministry as the Trinity Presbyterian Chuch of Northlake, IL. It is fitting that we renew our covenant with each other and our God. It has been proposed and accepted that we become a Biblical Storytelling Church. We will learn the Bible one story at a time so that it will be written on our hearts. We will tell these stories in our worship, to our children and to our community. We have started a new life as God's people.
